Discuss Carl here Wink

I think he's a very sweet old man on the inside, but his heart got broken when his wife died, so it's hard for him to deal with anyone who gets in the way of what he wants to accomplish for her. Once he sees that she was happy at the end of her life, his heart opens up to other people.

I felt sad for Carl before I watched the movie, knowing that he'd be through a lot - but when the movie began and after the flashback with Ellie, it was so much more touching. Life had really been tough with him. He was doing what he could to go on with only his memories, and then BAM! he has to leave his house. Yes, I know that he did leave it in the end, but I think the difference back then was that he did not have to do it because he was told to - he decided to do so in order to save Russell, Kevin and Dug. And he made the right choice.
Ellie would have been so proud of him.
But I've got to say that I am really happy he did not die by the end of the movie (as it was rumored that might happen) I was on the edge of my seat to the very end of the film...
