Am I the first to reply? Wooohooo!! Post your review of Up Icon_biggrin
Okay, so I went to see Up right on opening day. As I said, I had to wait until October 16th before the movie was released in Italy ( Post your review of Up Icon_sad) and I practically did not sleep the night before, I couldn't wait.
I had been watching and rewatching the preview clips all over again, and read everything I could find about this movie - so I more or less knew what I was going to see. But Up did not just live Up to my expectations - it surpassed them! Post your review of Up Icon_biggrin It was so packed with feelings and emotions - I laughed, I cried, and often I thought that the characters would not make it with their lives - I drew a breath of relief when I saw that they all had survived. The flashback about Carl and Ellie's life was heartbreaking - even though it was known that they'd have been through a lot of hardship together, and that she'd be dead when the movie began. But there was such emotional impact in that sequence, I could really feel what the characters felt - their cheers, their triumphs, their despair. Everything was perfect, from the lush, vivid jungle background to the representation of the characters themselves - probably the most realistic humans to have ever appeared in a Pixar movie. Same goes for the dog pack - if I had not known better, sometimes I could have sworn that they used real dogs. And Kevin was just too endearing for words. But one thing I believe was especially well done is the parallel between Muntz and Carl - because in many ways you can see that they are alike; they're both been left embittered, both pursuing a dream, both ready to fight for it to the last. They were like the two sides of the same coin. And like in the Harry Potter books, Pixar did show you how a different life could have different effects on people who have nonetheless things in common. I liked how Carl was gradually made to see that his life was not yet over, that he could still be of help, that he could still "live, not survive", as Captain McCrea would have said. All his life he had been concerned first and foremost with Ellie's happiness - he lived for her - but at first he did not realize that for her it had been the same, that their life together had been the greatest adventure they could live. The part with the photograph book was... I can't find the words for it.
I can't rate this movie anything but 9/10 (and if I had not seen WALL-E, it would probably be 10/10). For me it ties for my all time second favorite Pixar film together with Finding Nemo and Ratatouille. *_*
